BRYAN HOYOS

Freediving & Equalization Specialist

Bryan Hoyos is a competitive freediver, instructor, and Peruvian National Record holder whose career is defined by finding the balance of physical and mental equanimity. His journey into the deep began in 2020 in Malta, where a personal curiosity for the underwater world evolved into a lifelong commitment to the sport of freediving.

Origins and Early Influence

Born in Lima, Peru' (Class of '91), Bryan’s athletic foundation was laid in the early morning hours of his childhood, waking at 5:00 AM to run alongside his grandmother, an accomplished athlete. This early discipline transitioned into a deep connection with the ocean at age ten, when his family moved near the coast of Lima. It was here, on a borrowed bodyboard, that he first experienced the raw energy of the sea.

At 18, seeking a new path, Bryan relocated to Italy to pursue his university studies. This period was defined by a balance of work, study, and a growing passion for global travel, a combination that eventually led him back to the water.

A Global Path to the Elite

While living in Malta in 2020, Bryan transitioned from scuba diving to exploring the coastline on a single breath during the quiet of the global lockdowns. Once travel resumed, he formalized his education at one of Europe’s premier institutions, Apnea Canarias in Tenerife, where he completed his instructor training.

His pursuit of depth has since taken him across the globe:

- Dahab, Egypt: Spent several months training and mentoring his first students in the legendary Blue Hole.

- Australia: Two years working and teaching freediving during the summers in the diverse coastal waters of Sydney and the Gold Coast.

- Bali, Indonesia: Participated as an instructor in Deep Week, a global freediving festival where over 100 divers gather for workshops and connection.

- The Philippines: Currently based in Panglao, Bohol, focusing on elite competition. His dedication has resulted in two National Records and a ranking of #2 overall in Peru.

Philosophy and Teaching

A lifelong sport person with a background in CrossFit and weightlifting, Bryan brings a unique physical perspective to the water. As a specialist in the Shared Equalization Method, his coaching goes beyond technical precision. He views freediving as a framework for rewiring instinctive reactions and building resilience under pressure.

His approach is grounded in the belief that the stillness found at depth is a skill that carries far beyond the water, helping students find presence and strength in every aspect of their lives.

Bryan focuses all his efforts on continuously reaching his goals and evolving as a freediver. The Peruvian athlete approaches the coming years with countless challenges and a deep commitment to harnessing his full physical and mental potential, striving to remain at the elite level of a sport as complex as freediving.
